CONCERN-FIRST GUIDE
Skin Concern Guide
You've been using a brightening serum daily. But your skin tone hasn't changed. "Is it not working, or is something wrong with me?"
The key: "dullness" is not one thing.
1. Melanin-type — UV-induced excess melanin. Brightening actives (vitamin C, arbutin) work.
2. Glycation-type — Sugar-protein bonding creates yellowing. Brightening actives don't help; diet changes needed.
3. Poor circulation-type — Reduced blood flow creates blue-gray tones. Exercise and niacinamide help.
4. Thickened stratum corneum-type — Slow turnover accumulates dead cells. AHA/BHA exfoliation needed.
5. Dehydration-type — Dryness disrupts texture causing uneven light reflection. Moisturizing first.
Most brightening products only address melanin-type. If your dullness is dehydration or circulation, melanin suppressors won't help. Different causes require different solutions.
1. Identify your dullness type — Yellowish = glycation. Blue-gray = circulation. Rough = thickened stratum corneum.
2. Match approach to type — Melanin type needs brightening. Dehydration type needs moisture first.
3. Sunscreen is universal — Every dullness type is worsened by UV.
Knowing your dullness type is the starting point for effective care.
