Concentration
0.5-2% (topical)
Effect
Potent antioxidant, brightening (melanin synthesis pathway control), detoxification
Mechanism
A tripeptide composed of three amino acids: glutamic acid, cysteine, and glycine. The major intracellular antioxidant. Brightening effect through tyrosinase inhibition and shifting the synthesis pathway from eumelanin to pheomelanin. Involved in detoxification as a substrate for glutathione S-transferase
Typical concentration
0.5-2% (topical)
Onset
Brightening effect: 8-12 weeks (topical)
Cautions
Limited transdermal absorption efficiency. Stability challenges (easily oxidized)
