LEVEL 1
Age & Skin Changes
"My skin feels different lately" — many people start noticing this change as they enter their 30s.
The skin that stayed hydrated effortlessly in your 20s now tends to dry out. Foundation doesn't apply as smoothly. Your complexion looks dull by evening. These are not your imagination — they are signs of real changes happening inside your skin.
Skin cells renew themselves in a cycle of approximately 28 days. This is called turnover. However, after your 30s, this cycle can extend to 40–45 days. As old keratin lingers on the skin surface, it causes dullness and rough texture.
Collagen, which supports skin firmness, peaks at age 25 and decreases by approximately 1% every year. By age 40, it has dropped to about 75% of its peak level. This is one of the fundamental causes of wrinkles and sagging.
Ceramides, which play a key role in the skin's barrier function, also decrease with age. When ceramides are insufficient, moisture evaporates more easily and the skin becomes more sensitive to external irritants. If you've ever experienced skincare products suddenly stinging, weakened barrier function may be the cause.
Skin changes with age happen to everyone. That in itself is not a bad thing. What matters is understanding what is happening to your skin right now and choosing care that matches it. Moving from "choosing by feeling" to "choosing with reason" — that is the first step to a lifelong relationship with your skin.
